The safety and scientific validity of this study is the responsibility of the study sponsor and investigators. Otherwise, no randomised control trial demonstrates the efficacy of Cyproheptadine on those patients. Listing a study does not mean it has been evaluated by the U. This is precisely what the investigators intend to demonstrate on this randomised placebo control cross-over trial. Cyproheptadine is currently clinically used as an appetite stimulant for children with failure to thrive without underlying organic disease. Our hypothesis is that Cyproheptadine is more efficient than placebo to improve weight gain and feeding behaviour on 2 to 4 years old children with failure to thrive. Cyproheptadine (Periactin) hydrochloride, a histamine and serotonin antagonist, was compared with placebo for effectiveness in producing appetite stimulation and weight gain in healthy, underweight, adults. Increase in appetite and weight was significantly greater statistically in those who received cyproheptadine. Drowsiness was a common transient side effect of cyproheptadine. There were no significant alterations in laboratory values following cyproheptadine administration.
Cyproheptadine is currently clinically used as an appetite stimulant for children with failure to thrive without underlying organic disease. Heptadine, chlorpromazine, methysergide have also been used for treatment. a mineral-rich plant drug, on the pharmacokinetics of ciprofloxacin in the rat.
